The family lives right by Yamdrok Lake, and one of the first things you may notice is the view. From the living room, you can look out through the window toward the lake while sitting down with your hosts for lunch.
Inside the home, you’ll also get a closer look at traditional Tibetan-style decoration and household furnishings, which gives the visit a much more personal feel than a normal scenic stop.
Your hosts will prepare a simple local Tibetan meal, often with butter tea, traditional snacks, and other home-style dishes. As you eat together, your guide can help with introductions and translation, so you can ask about family life, local food, and daily routines around Yamdrok.
Depending on the household and the day, you may also see small livestock around the home, such as young sheep kept in the family yard, which adds another glimpse into rural life by the lake.
The hosts are warm and welcoming, and the whole experience feels relaxed and informal—more like being invited into someone’s home than joining a scheduled sightseeing activity.
